Theoretical and Applied Linguistics@ro is an open access journal edited by the Department of Linguistics at the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Letters. It is designed as a comprehensive and dynamic platform aimed at sparking debates and facilitating dialogue among scholars in various linguistic disciplines. It promotes insightful analyses that delve into the intricacies of language structure, function, and usage, challenging commonly held assumptions and bridging theoretical models with empirical findings. We encourage innovative approaches and methodologies, while also integrating time-validated traditional findings. TAL@ro offers a venue for original research across a wide range of disciplines including, but not limited to, phonetics, morphology, syntax, lexicology, semantics, pragmatics, sociolinguistics, and is open to interdisciplinarity.

      🔶  The peer review process

Initial / Desk Evaluation

Upon receiving an article, the editorial board members determine whether it fits within the scope of the journal and meets the journal’s scientific standards. This initial evaluation considers:
(a) the content (the article should address topics in theoretical and applied linguistics; it should contain elements of originality; the topic should be approached scientifically); (b) the form (the article should include all the sections specified in the author guidelines, such as abstract, affiliation, references; the article should follow the style sheet of the journal).

 Double blind peer review

Each article is reviewed by two experts in the field, members of the national or international advisory board. If the article does not fall within the expertise of the board members, it will be sent to specialists from the broader academic community. The two reviewers must be affiliated with institutions other than the authors of the article. The review process is anonymous, and authors are asked to avoid referring to themselves in the first person when citing works they have previously published.

Reviewers can choose to accept the article without corrections, with minor corrections, with major corrections (in this case, the article will undergo a second review after resubmission), or reject the article with justified reasons provided. If there is a major disagreement between the two reviewers, the article will be sent to a third reviewer.

🔗 Peer-Review Report

Upon acceptance of the article, authors will receive the reviewers’ suggestions and comments by e-mail. Authors are asked to consider these suggestions and comments and submit the revised version of the article within the deadline specified by the editors.

Contributions in foreign languages will be reviewed by native speakers, and authors are kindly asked to take these corrections into account.

The review process may take up to 6 months.
